All of my grandchildren are participating in a college funding program, which pays them money for monthly papers on various subjects. I don’t dictate what they write, only that the papers are well researched and footnoted. The assignment that produced this paper was to review the characteristics of different political philosophies (which can be found on my website archive dated April 2020) like: libertarion, conservative, liberal, left, communism, facism, and anarchy. From those characteristics, develop a political philosophy that you’re willing to defend.
My Political Philosophy
There are many different political Philosophies and every person has their own view on how the government should be run. My personal political philosophy includes the aspects of:
- Support “peace through strength”.
- God bestows certain inalienable rights on everyone.
- The role of government is to protect the rights of its citizens.
- Prefer smaller government and less regulation.
- Government should tax less and spend less.
- Want only necessary regulations of business, economy, and individual lives, that results in more freedom.
- Limited federal government to state and local governments.
- Believe in supporting the Constitution as written and amended.
- Support the First Amendment.
- Pro-Life and Pro-Traditional marriage.
- Promote equal justice that doesn’t favor the rich or the poor.
- Equal opportunity instead of equal outcome.
- Capitalism is good.
- Welfare should be a temporary help for those who can’t take care of themselves.
- Support for the right to bear arms.
- Support a strong military.
- Energy independence.
- Right to work.
- Voter ID laws.
- Support strong immigration policies.
- Natural rights do not come from the government but from the Creator.
- The only legitimate purpose of the government is to protect natural rights.
- Government should be limited to protecting individual rights, national defense, protecting its citizens from wrongs committed by others against private property/contracts, building public institutions and public works.
- Believe people should be free to live their lives as they see fit as long as they do not harm anyone else.
With all of these different aspects of political philosophies that I believe in, I can conclude that I believe in a government that is a combination of conservative and classical libertarian ideals. It includes a capitalist society where the government should only focus on the important things such as protecting individual rights as well as funding the military to ensure the safety of the nation, including protecting our borders from illegal immigration. Policies that benefit the military and immigration laws will be supported as we need to focus on our country before others. This protects the individual freedom of people and their right to choose what they want as long as it doesn’t infringe on any God-given rights. It also emphasizes a government that helps those who try their best instead of everyone having the same outcome in society. It includes a government that gives individual freedom; however, is still pro-life and pro-traditional marriage. Welfare should exist, but only for those that absolutely need it. That is my ideal political philosophy.
